Retail sales of cannabis climbed in November for a second month in a row as the price per gram of cannabis continued to fall, according to data from the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP).
Connecticut retailers sold $17.6 million of adult-use cannabis products in the month of November, marking the second best month for sales since the purchase of recreational cannabis became legal in January 2023. In August, the state sold roughly $18 million worth of products. Sales figures for the adult-use program have been increasing for the past two months.
The number of adult-use products sold also increased in November, rising from roughly 398,000 products sold in October to roughly 465,000 last month, after seeing a decline between September and October.
The price per gram for cannabis, which covers both adult-use and medical markets, declined to $10.86 per gram. It has been declining since July 2024, when the price was $12.16. The price per gram peaked at $12.51 in March 2024.
Medical marijuana sales declined again in November, falling to roughly $6.7 million. Sales of medical marijuana products have been following a downward trend since March of 2023. March marked the highest number of sales for medical marijuana since recreational cannabis became available for sale, with roughly $12.6 million in sales.
The number of medical marijuana products sold did increase between October and November, however, rising from approximately 173,000 products to 197,000.
Cannabis flowers remain the most frequently purchased product, accounting for 49 percent of sales in both markets from January 2023 and 45 percent of sales in November. In November, cannabis flower sales totaled $11 million. Since January 2023, they total roughly $266 million.
While adult-use retail sales have declined slightly in Massachusetts in recent months, its sales continue to greatly exceed Connecticut’s. The state sold roughly $137 million of adult-use products in November, down from the previous month and a $147.6 million high in September. The price per gram of cannabis also fell to $4.58. Massachusetts’ cannabis prices have been falling since June. The last time cannabis cost over $10 per gram in Massachusetts was July 2022.
Connecticut sales continue to exceed Rhode Island’s. Rhode Island, where recreational cannabis has been available since January 2024, sold $8.15 million of adult-use products in November.

For myself personally I have not stepped foot in a Connecticut dispensary. The prices in Massachusetts are just too tempting to pass up. I frequently check the prices of the dispensary in town but they continue to be twice the amount of what you can get in MA. If the state wants to be competitive with neighboring states they need slash cannabis prices in half. Until then I’ll be heading to Massachusetts.
I drove an hr and 20 min to mass just to get it since its basically half the price so 160 for oz compared to like 350 in conn. Its a no brainer. Plus dont have the stupid 30 percent thc cap.
Medical cannabis sales have been falling for years. As a medical user I can tell you that there is almost no primarily CBD-based product available, nor has it been for years. Medical marijuana in Connecticut is a sham and the growers have stopped growing CBD products what they realized they could make more money selling THC products recreationally
Why a smoke shop photo and not an official Dispensary
That’s what I was thinking, dispensary story, smoke shop pic.
Very good article with pertinent facts such as price per gram. Is there a reason cannabis in Massachusetts is half price? Are you aware of any hindrance to sales in CT that Massachusetts sellers don’t face?
I find it ironic that government artificially increased prices of weed when they made it illegal. Then they turn around and try to sell for inflated prices they artificially caused. They also said for years marijane was a schedule 1 “narcotic” with no medicinal value. Liars liar, pants on fire!
Most people I know travel to Massachusetts to get it. It’s double the price compared to Massachusetts. The tax is 20% in MA but it’s still worth the trip.
yeah, we take a 40 minute ride to mass to buy our medical as well. its just doesnt make sense that someone could produce marijuana in mass so much cheaper. seeing as they basically have the same weather and economy as us haha.
a mixed half oz in Ct can be $200….in Ma, you can get a mixed half oz for $100, and the quality & selection is faaaar better than at Ct dispensaries…i still shop at my local dispo w/my med card at least once a week, sometimes there are diacounts…
No one should be smoking this garbage anyway. Anyone that smokes to get high is a coward
Ok old man, I think you strayed too far from the group home.
😂😂😂
We go up to Mass. CT prices are way higher, and we find up there the way they’re set up it’s easier to talk to people to get advice. They also have loyalty programs and super quality products. I’m afraid CT really came in late to the game.
What makes you say this 😂
🤔
i’m old enough to know that i’m using to get “high”…bud, take a look at the science.
Thank you, Senõr Crankypants. Have a great day.
Unfortunately Pete, you missed the mark I have neuropathy in my feet and 1 gummy let’s me work around my yard for 5 hours without any pain or impairment. So before you spout off understand there are individuals that prefer this over the Pharma sh*t with all the side effects. P S. It gave my father an appetite to eat while he had cancer.
Yes! Amen, brother.
idk who you are or where you buy your cannibus but good luck getting it for $10 a gram from a dispensary in ct. i dont know where they come up with these numbers, go ahead and check any of their online menus.
exactly…8ths are $40-$52, even on the med side! and Ct doesn’t offer qtrs, halves, or wholes.
Horrible article it reflects the greed on making money selling drugs to people . Greed wanting more people becoming codependent mentally unstable and drug addicted so the democratic blue states can make money . It’s called dope for a reason and that reason is no good . Marijuana has been studied to cause dementia later in life there is nothing good about allowing society to consume mind altering drugs
Willie Nelson has smoked more than 99% of people ever, quit lying. About adverse effects.
😂
I have never used any cannabis product. I am late 40s.
That said, so pro-cannabis I think Pete the Moron and Salty Stephen are idiots
Comparing Ma and CT is like apples and oranges. They grow their own while CT use middle men costing more. To get an oz for $69 vs $288 is a no brainer. Maybe CT will come down but until then going to Ma is the answer

Where did you get your retail prices from? I just purchased 3.5 grams of flower for $40.00 plus CT Sales Tax total was $48.00. But minus the tax according to your article it should have only been about $35.00 for 3.5 grams. Not to mention the $40.00 was a Sale price. Typical amount charge for 3.5 grams in CT is $60.00 plus Tax. Go to Rise Dispensary website Branford, CT and see prices. One of you is way off.
Good morning Timothy – the link in the first paragraph has the data. Sharing here as well: https://data.ct.gov/Health-and-Human-Services/Cannabis-Average-Price-Per-Gram/ttwq-xhyz
Had they not gone for the cash grab of taxing at the highest rate they could, right out of the gate; they wouldn’t see the drop in revenue. Once people realized how much the tax the amounts to, they find that it’s substantially cheaper to buy unregulated. Also, the dispensaries raised prices so much that it turned many many people away from that avenue. The gov’t would’ve been better served to take the taxes over a longer period, as opposed to pricing themselves out of competition. They deserve it, for trying to be greedy in a subculture, where greed is penalized and looked upon with such scorn.
I have a medical card in CT, but discovered MA dispensaries several months ago and will make the trip quarterly and stock up. Prices are less than half, products superior. I can get high CBD/ CBG which I can’t get even in the medical side. People are super helpful and friendly and we make a day trip with lunch. Lol. In CT it’s like you’re ushered into jail to get your product. Mass is doing it right.
Correct! Ushered into jail to get😂
Nobody I know goes to a legal dispensary. It’s too expensive. They just go to the corner “smoke” shop. These places all sell weed for cheap. Everybody knows this.
Litter, at what state that has “smoke shops” that sells weed? Because not VT has that,
“Nobody I know goes to a legal dispensary. It’s too expensive. They just go to the corner “smoke” shop. These places all sell weed for cheap. Everybody knows this.”
Not EVERYONE knows about that. Be specific of what state you are talking about. Also as for the other commets that mentions MA does have better deals when it comes to weed. I’m very sure you never been northeast part of the States…..🙄
Is Mass restricted to buying only from Mass growers? I think ct should be allowed to buy from all growers
None of this matters when a street dealer has cannabis at 3.5 grams for 20 dollars or less with a much higher THC content than dispensaries in the state. You had to write this article like “oh look the price per gram is going down! Oh so good!” when it’s still $35+ at each dispensary for 3.5 grams at mediocre THC levels. I was skeptical before I clicked this article and now I know it’s just a fluff article
@ Johnathan Barrows, I’ve actually bought weed from a street dealer in Massachusetts and he sold his weed for a 3.5 gram for $50.🤨😑😒 What are you saying? It’s like the other guy about the “smoke shop”.
The article is shamefully bad. I learned more in the comments. MA weed is 3-4 times cheaper. Only people with zero information and no car buy weed at CT dispensaries.
