Sales of Connecticut adult-use cannabis products grew month-over-month in May, despite a slight increase in the average price per gram.

For both the adult-use and medical marijuana markets, the average price per gram of cannabis rose from $7.09 in April to $7.18 in May. The price of cannabis generally fell month-over-month between last August and May 2026.

Cannabis prices peaked at $12.51 per gram in March 2024. Since then, prices have generally fallen, reaching an all-time low of $7.09 per gram in April.

Despite the slight increase in price, both the total monthly retail sales and number of products sold increased in the adult-use market in May, continuing a three-month increase in total sales. In May, retailers in the state sold roughly $19.6 million worth of adult-use products, surpassing the roughly $18.7 month of total sales in April. Medical marijuana sales remained roughly flat month-over-month at approximately $5.5 million.

The average product price also fell, despite the slight increase in the average price per gram, rising from $28.77 per product for the adult-use market in April to $29.16 in May. Medical marijuana products continue to be, on average, more expensive than adult-use products, rising from $31.30 in April to $32.02 in May.

Cannabis flower continues to be the most purchased type of product, accounting for roughly 47 percent of sales in both markets since adult-use cannabis became legal, but the sale of vape cartridges has increased, now accounting for 32 percent of sales across time.

Connecticut’s cannabis industry continues to outpace Rhode Island but lag behind Massachusetts. In May, Massachusetts retailers sold $112.1 million in adult-use cannabis products to Connecticut’s $19.6 million. The combined weekly sales of buds and vape products alone totaled roughly $19.6 million in Massachusetts for the third week of June. Also in May, the average price per gram of cannabis in Massachusetts was $3.89.

Across 2026 to date, cannabis prices have decreased more in Connecticut than Massachusetts. Since January 2026, prices in Massachusetts have fallen by 3.9 percent and by 5.9 percent in Connecticut.

In May, Rhode Island retailers sold a total of $10.41 million of cannabis products in both the adult-use and medical marijuana markets, an increase over the previous month’s sales of $10.07 million. Rhode Island does not report the average price per gram of cannabis.

Several actions taken during the most recent legislative session had the potential to impact Connecticut’s cannabis market by removing caps on the THC content of several cannabis products.

Under current law, cannabis retailers are prohibited from selling plant material with a THC concentration over 35 percent on a dry-weight basis and a THC concentration of 70 percent on a dry-weight basis for other cannabis products. A sweeping cannabis reform bill passed by legislators in April removed those caps, effective October 1. The same bill also proposed increasing the allowable limit of THC in infused beverages.

However, after pushback from the public and a number of legislators, legislators reinstated the cap on THC concentration. The increase to the allowable amount of THC in infused drinks, 5 milligrams for beverages sold in package stores and 10 milligrams for those sold in dispensaries or cannabis retailers, remains in place.
