Cannabis prices hit a new low in September, falling to an average $6.57 per gram. Total sales in both the adult-use and medical markets also fell between August and September.

The average price per gram of marijuana has fallen by just over a dollar in 2026. In January, marijuana averaged $7.63 a gram. Prices have generally fallen each month, except between April and May where the price per gram increased by nine cents. Marijuana prices peaked in March 2024, at an average $12.51 per gram and have largely fallen month-over-month since.

The average price per adult-use product has also followed the same trend. In September, the average adult-use product cost $27.24, down from $28.09 the previous month.

The average price for medical marijuana products also fell, but not as steeply, decreasing from $31.52 in August to $31.50 in September. While medical marijuana products have decreased on average, the month-to-month change has been much smaller than the adult-use market and medical marijuana products have been more expensive than adult-use products since September 2025.

Cannabis sales fell between August and September for both markets, continuing a two-month long decline in both overall retail sales and total number of products sold. In September, there were just over 701,000 adult-use products sold and 166,300 medical products sold. In July, sales for adult-use products reached an all-time high since adult-use cannabis became legal in 2023, with roughly 729,300 products sold.

Similarly, roughly $21 million worth of adult-use products were sold in the state in July and just over $19 million were sold in September.

Connecticut’s trends continue to follow Massachusetts, although overall sales continue to outpace Connecticut’s and marijuana is considerably cheaper per gram in Massachusetts. In September, cannabis cost an average of $3.81 per ounce in Massachusetts, a decrease of two cents from August.

Total adult-use sales also fell in Massachusetts in September, with the state recording $94.3 million in sale, down from $144.9 million in August.

Cannabis sales also decreased in Rhode Island, down to $10.2 million in September compared to $10.58 million in August. Rhode Island does not publicly report the average price per gram of cannabis.
